Sacramento Rally, August 28, 2009

Text Box: Eyewitness Account!!!

By Karen Brooks, Humboldt Tea Party Patriots spokesperson

It was a very hot day in Sacramento on Friday but the heat only intensified as thousands of protestors rallied on the Capital steps to speak out against big government. The overarching theme was how government at all levels is over-regulating every aspect of American’s lives to such an extent as to make it impossible to operate a small business, raise a family, and pursue the ideals of America.

Speaker after speaker talked about the unconstitutional control of these governmental programs, such as:
CARB, California Air Resources Board, received a $1 billion budget from legislators while they lay off 8,000 teachers to balance the budget.
CARB, among many over-reaching regulations, mandates that truckers must begin installing emission controls beginning in 2010. Hundreds of truckers were there protesting this mandate, like Susan Jones from Ukiah, who will be put out of business due to the cost to retrofit her trucks in a sagging economy.
President Obama’s recent $10 billion loan for oil exploration in Brazil, sending more money and jobs overseas.
Our State Legislators voted against increasing the oil production out of Santa Barbara then secretly hid their votes from the public record.
The California Energy Commission is about to ban the sale of big screen TVs and put many small electronic businesses out of business.
AB 32, California’s version of Cap and Trade, will cost jobs and take valuable dollars out of citizen’s pocket while doing nothing about carbon emissions.
There are currently three health care bills coming out of Congress, it isn’t just HR3200 that will take health care decisions out of the hands of patients and physicians and into the hands of big government.
Senator Snowe from Maine is currently writing a bill to authorize the President to seize control of the Internet during cyber attacks.
Legislators are crafting new bills to overturn the 2/3rds majority needed to increase taxes and undermine Prop 13.
Some unelected Commissioners on the Commission on the 21st Century Economy are considering increasing what we pay at the pump to fix the budget crisis that politicians themselves have created. They want to double the gas tax which is already the highest gas tax in the nation.
The lack of a free and open media to exploit the corruption of big government and focus on the plight of small business and citizens.

Americans, certainly Californians, have a lot to be heated over and Friday’s protest was a call to action. For Assemblyman, Dan Logue, he was overwhelming supported for his legislation AB 118 which will repeal Assembly Bill 32, the measure on greenhouse gases that passed in 2006. AB 32 requires the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to develop rules and methods to ultimately cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.

Logue understands why so many small businesses are upset by AB 32. By setting tougher rules on air pollution, California is simply making it hard for its businesses to compete with companies in other states, where requirements are less stringent. It's a big reason many companies are leaving the state.

California Congressman Devin Nunes is fighting for his constituents, “The real enemies are the radical environmentalists who have taken over our government. It has been 701 days since I’ve asked the politicians to stop this man-made drought in California.” Time is running out for Central Valley farmers. Just look at timber, oil, natural gas, water and other domestic resources have been locked-up by laws, regulations and lawsuits spearheaded by environmental radicals.

“Every industry is under attack,” event organizer Mark Meckler said. “The environmentalists are using a divide and conquer strategy to put all industries out of business.” Thanks to Tea Party protests around the nation cap and trade has been shelved, health care has been stalled and Californians solidly defeated the May tax increase. The rally emphasized that the fight for American’s freedom has just begun.

For the 40 Humboldt Tea Party Patriots who weathered the heat and rallied at the Capital it was a long day well-spent. The call to action was to keep the pressure on, organize within your own community to hold government accountable, and vote for people –not the party- who will uphold the principles of free markets, limited government and fiscal responsibility.

With 600 supporters, and counting, the local Tea Party group fixes its sites on Thompson’s Town Hall on September 2nd with a list of 118 concerns about HR 3200 and hopes that a board member will be allowed to ask a question at the meeting. After that, they are planning to participate in a parade on Patriot’s Day, 9/11, in Fortuna.
